If we feel sick it seems reasonable to go to the doctor, but unfortunately, some of us don’t. We may think that our symptoms are not that troubling or that they’ll heal over time, so we put things off and move on with our busy schedules. We may even feel afraid to hear bad news and avoid the doctors, despite feeling ill.
When we finally prioritize our wellness, we may have a large list of unrelated symptoms and have difficulty recalling how we felt at the time. When we finally feel healthy, we deem it unnecessary to visit the doctor. We continue to take a reactive approach to our healthcare, which most often prolongs our illnesses.
This week, let’s encourage each other to visit the doctor immediately when we feel sick. Let’s ask one another, “How long ago was your last physical checkup?”, and make appointments even if we feel healthy. By doing so, we can support a culture that prioritizes health and well-being, and take a proactive approach to healthcare. Just as we give our vehicles for servicing, we should visit the doctors on a regular basis and encourage others to do the same.
