Recently, my therapist asked me to describe my system for reflection. After taking her through my process, we noticed a key detail that I’ve procrastinated on:
RE-READING my journal.
In the past, I had performed yearly reviews but sitting in her office in July I had realized that 7 months had passed and still no yearly review. Thus, at the end of the session I made a commitment:
“I, Daniel Nazareth, will go to Coffee Island on August 1st at 2pm, before our next session and re-read my journals to look for patterns, trends, and common values.”

After leaving, I thought about why I had procrastinated for so long and how I could make it easier to do what was right. In the past, what worked for me and how could I reproduce that?
The answer was my blog. To keep the content coming, I had to continue to write in my journal. After posting for all to see, I constantly came back to read my blog which served as long term reminders, enabled my learning, and realigned my actions with my values. Re-reading gave the space for my neural pathways to fire, and I increased the quality of my observations and journal entries. A beautiful feedback loop.
It’s funny when you know you know something, but still don’t act in accordance with it. When I sat to re-read my journals, I opened the first one, and the very first weekly insight note read:
“Writing in this journal is great for reflecting on daily feels, but to elicit real change, it must be re-read and checked for patterns.”

Two years later, I am taking my own advice and coming back to my blog.
The purpose of this blog is to share. The topics and structure will change, but I hope to share resources, perspectives, and insights from my life, work, and social projects.
Greater minds once said, “all is as thinking makes it so” and “to write is to think clearly.” I hope you’ll join me on this journey and hit that subscribe button right at the bottom of this post. Let’s goooooooooooooooooo!
